Welcome to the TRAX Equestrian Center.
We are a Non-Profit Organization.
TRAX Equestrian Center is a year round facility offering a unique horseback riding program that coordinates physical and emotional therapy into a one-of-a-kind experience.
Overseen by licensed speech pathologists and occupational therapists, the goals of the program are to achieve increased balance and control, and improved language and socialization skills while enhancing self esteem.
The therapist designs each participant’s program based on individual needs.
We are always looking for volunteers.
You will find that while volunteering,
you will find happiness and strength.
What's it all about?
The rhythmic movement of the horse gently moves the rider’s body forward and back, side to side, and up and down. The rider learns to balance and uses core muscle groups without even trying. Riding challenges and impacts the entire body, working every muscle group, oxygenating the blood and stimulating the nervous system in a healthy way.
The program offers weekly one hour sessions. The session can include up to 45 minutes of riding under supervision of a trained riding instructor as well as up to three volunteers who lead the horse and help support the rider. Participants are encouraged to interact with the horses by learning to care for them. Just being around the horses has a calming effect on most people improving physical and mental organization.
During the riding session activities are used that focus on developing motor skills, dynamic movement, and facilitating speech and language.
The excitement of mastering new skills, caring for the horse, and the social interaction with the other riders, volunteers and staff are all vital components in the success of the participants in the TRAX program.
Who can participate?
Participants must be a minimum of 4 years old, and have clearance from a medical doctor. Weight restrictions may apply.
Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years old and be in good physical health. Horse leaders must be a minimum of 18 years old.
Typical riding instruction for a neuro-typical children (8 and above) and adult is also offered at TRAX Equestrian Center.
Why Horses...Why TRAX?
Research shows that students who participate in therapeutic riding experience physical, emotional and mental benefits, often beyond what was even hoped for, or expected. As a volunteer, you can contribute to the success of each student and make a difference in a child's life, and receive the same benefits! Please join us at TRAX Equestrian Center. There are so many things yo can do. Previous horse "experience" is helpful, but not at all required.
TRAX Equestrian Center is a non-profit organization (pending 501-c-3 approval) established to enhance the lives of children and young adults with neurological disabilities by providing therapeutic horseback riding activities that are recreational in nature and adapted to individual needs.
